Big changes in the Business Services Training Package

The proposed BSB Training Package V7.0 is expected to be released on training.gov.au in October 2020.  Significant changes are likely to mean that RTO's will need to apply for scope of registration.

Some of the key changes are listed below:

  • A total of 32 qualifications and 283 units of competency have been updated.
  • 7 qualifications at level 3 have been deleted or "rolled into" a Certificate III in Business with specialization streams of Customer Engagement, Administration, Medical Administration and Records and Information Management.
  • 20 new units of competency and 28 new skill sets have been developed.
  • The Certificate I in Business is being retired in favour of being amalgamated into a new Certificate II in Workplace Skills which of course has it's own packaging rules and elective groups.

The industry reference group has requested an 18 month transition period which may be necessary for RTO's and publishers of learning resource to develop and update training materials and assessment tools. The issue this presents is that students studying BSB courses over extended periods may find that qualifications they started are quickly redundant.  Schools in particular will need to be well prepared to commence new qualifications in 2021 or at least have students working on equivalent units from the old qualifications so that the transition is streamlined.
